It takes a special kind of wordsmithing to use the Bible in order to justify “othering” people -especially homeless people.
To be fair, my grandfather was a pastor and I don’t think anyone expects pastors to let unpredictable, unknown people into your home with your small children. The expectation is to serve these people on a larger scale. The Christian mandate is to vote, act, and serve in ways that provide merciful solutions to sustained healing for all who suffer.
This includes helping to find permanent or transitional housing, voting to fund programs to provide mental health programs and substance rehabilitation, ensuring people don’t become homeless to begin with by voting for working wages and worker protections and rights… But to go on a podcast and use your pastoral experiences with the homeless to entertain yourself or as the butt a joke is decidedly unChristian.
I am so incredibly weary of these people who proclaim themselves to be Christian, use all the Christian buzz words, quote scripture, but who don’t understand a damn thing about what their Christian mandate actually is.
