"A proposed pay increase of 17 percent over three years for Huntington Beach police officers has raised the prospect of bankruptcy for the city.
At Tuesday’s meeting of the city council, the Memorandum of Understanding between the city and the Huntington Beach Police Officers Association was debated and a divided council eventually voted 4-3 to create a council subcommittee to look into the impact of the agreement on the city’s general fund."
Opposed were Councilmembers Andrew Gruel, Gracey Van Der Mark and Chad Williams.
"Huntington Beach City Council members Andrew Gruel and Gracey Van Der Mark each received the maximum political contribution, $5,900, from the Police Officer Assn., election records show."
The Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes has endorsed Gracey:
"Gracey Van Der Mark is the right choice for State Assembly. She has consistently supported accountability for those who break the law, while also ensuring law enforcement has the resources needed to do our job. Gracey will be a strong voice for the common-sense policies needed to keep our community safe. Please vote for Gracey Van Der Mark for State Assembly."
