What a revolting development. She must be held to make her positions public. Thanks for alerting us. Has South County lost its collective mind? Who wants that large school district controlled by fanatics? Very strange.

I looked up some stats on schools that she would potentially represent: Kinoshita- 89% socioeconomically disadvantaged, Viejo -45% socioeconomically disadvantaged, San Juan Elementary -73% socioeconomically disadvantaged, Del Obispo- 68% socioeconomically disadvantaged, Marco Forster -63% socioeconomically disadvantaged.

This is what she said on her website "Mandy believes students should take ownership of their education. Together, schools and families should help students develop the initiative, work ethic, and self-reliance necessary to become engaged, caring, responsible citizens."

That sounds fine but... Does this sound like someone who has any sense of what it's like to grow up in poverty? No one would disagree with the idea that "students should take ownership of their education" but children growing up in poverty have many, many challenges. How are children expected to "take ownership" when they may not have enough to eat or may live in an overcrowded household. Or they may be worried about if their parents have enough money to pay the rent.

This is not the first attempted school takeover by LDS folks, although possibly their first District takeover attempt. Some years ago a high school principal in AUHSD tried very hard - inappropriately hard - to fill all open teacher jobs with his co-religionists. He eventually left for a distant part of California.

LDS folks are welcome to their beliefs and viewpoints, of course. But in American democracy, we (constitutionally) value diversity of religious beliefs. In fact diversiy of viewpoints is the definition of how small-d democracy works.

These people are not benign at all! In the last board election, they hired some derelict people to super glue, industrial staple (including into baby palm trees), and impossibly affix awful propaganda signs about the opposition’s candidate. And they would do this in the wee dark hours DAILY! In my midnight hours, I would go out and remove them with step-stool, gloves, and putty knife. I collected more than 100, with ALL of them placed illegally on freeway off ramp signs and other signs affiliated with traffic. Many were placed where pedestrians were not permitted. In a thread of comments, Zollinger’s husband “liked” this effort. The owner of Amada senior care services in San Clemente apparently had some big vans to wrap in propaganda posters (in the wacko style of Lyndon Larouche fanatics) and park them in various visible places. Their reign of terror must be stopped.

I’m not sure I’d like 3 people from any church or organization to be on a school board. This one is especially rooted in racism, misogyny, sex ed propaganda and anti LGBTQ work. She may be the most reasonable person but this isn’t a good direction.

"...He earned his bachelor’s and master's degrees in accounting from BYU and his MBA from Harvard Business School. Troy and Mandy have six children, four of whom are currently attending BYU."

She volunteers in the local schools and on school board curriculum development and accreditation committees. Troy and Mandy have six children, four of whom are currently attending BYU."

This scares the bejesus out of me (pun intended). Seriously, the public school system is a secular institution! Religion has absolutely no place here. Jeff is right. I've seen the video of Lisa Davis and allies laying hands on a school and praying (not making this up) and Jennifer Adnams not only believes that God talks to her but goes on the record to state this. This is scary as hell. And it's hypocritical B.S. Can you imagine the public outcry if there was a Muslim trustee who even mentioned "allah" or said that allah spoke to them?

Mandy Bourne might be a kind reasonable person who only wants CUSD to do a good job of educating kids. I really hope so. But we already know that certain school board members are culture warriors who appear intent on imposing their religious views on the district. If she allies herself with this bloc we are in deep trouble.
