So, how does one get this broadcast far and wide? I mean, it's disgusting for all the reasons, but if no one knows there won't be any consequences.

I posted a comment about it on Simon Rosenberg's Hopium substack, which has a lot of politically active people reading it, and several people have already replied on it. I also asked Senators Padilla and Schiff to make a big stink out of it and maybe publicly valorize firefighters.

Excellent! I write to Padilla, Schiff, and Levin almost weekly about something.

I got a suggestion that it would be an excellent topic for a letter to the editor of local media, too.

We are living in a twilight zone and until we have some leaders with big ones we are doomed. Even though they are 9 months too late!

They are also snatching up nannies and parents and just leaving kids alone. I order to do this job right now, you must have an enormous hole in your soul and a brain the size of a pea.

There is no bottom to their pit. We've got to get this out and force the media to make it a headline.

Yes, we need a spotllight on this. Only seeing the headline, I made the false assumption firefights who were arrested were the arsonists--has happened to often. We need legacy media to cover this. CNN where are you? NYT, where are you????

Well, the Guardian has a big headline about it. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/aug/28/washington-firefighters-arrests-detention-border

It's been, what, 18 hours or so? It should be a bigger story but it does seem to be gaining momentum.

Edit: I am now seeing coverage on CNN and, believe it or not, some very negative coverage in the New York Post. I think this one might actually break through, though I still don't see it in the NYT or WaPo.

It is shameful that we need to rely on news outlets in other counties for news about major issues in our own country. Remember the Cold War era when we looked down on “communism” for censoring the news? Even then, it was the pot v kettle phenomenon. Much worse now. 😣

It's troubling that the main feeling I have from this is numbness... What can even be done?

Untill the major networks stop pooping on themselves, they have become part of the problem. This is scary, people!

The following comment is from

https://thehotshotwakeup.substack.com/p/comments-from-senior-usda-official, a blog which focuses on fires and firefighting:

“ In my opinion, senior leadership was caught off guard by this whole thing and is concerned that it is a cumbersome distraction from the workforce's focus on the mission of fighting fires and staying safe throughout the fire season.”

“I will provide any further details if they become available.”

Jeff, you are so spot on with your publications, but I wonder if you don't turn off some elders with your purple prose. Maybe you're aiming at the younger generation? But we all need to hear what you're saying. I'm an elder, and I read it all, but I can't help thinking that some of your cussing is a turn-off!

I want to call my elected representatives about this but want more specifics, a link to a credible news source would be helpful.

Try the Hotshot Wakeup on Discord. Tim has done two stories on this. There’s more to this than the original reporting. The firefighters were actually not on the fire line, which is good. But the two units were demobilized. The fire had slowed down and they were cutting down trees into firewood, which they leave by the side of the road instead of in whole tree trunks. Nearby community people take it. Still on duty though and still mobilized. It seems like the overall opinion that everybody agrees with regardless of political leaning is that this should not have been done on a mobilized unit in this way. They could’ve done it when they reached a hotel or a camp when they were off duty. This causes a lot of morale and other problems within the firefighting team. These were contractor-hired FF and it would appear that there were some violation of contract in hours or something that may have sparked this it’s still unclear. The contractor should be held responsible for hiring. But the fact remains that a good percentage of people that have worked on fires in the contract world may be non-citizens. It is brutally hard work.

Listen to the two stories. Tim tries to stay out of the political aspect of things and just put out what he knows, allowing his own readers to have their own political opinions. I personally hate this immigration situation. People find themselves in now. I rarely use the word hate. I have close friends I fear for.

Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up .
