Let’s look at this from three different perspectives.

First, you’re a firefighter. You’re at the base of Washington’s largest blaze of the year. You’re geared up, brave AF, here to give your all to saving land and human life. This is a brutal job, filled with risk and terror. But you are here, because, well, this is who you are. A life saver. A firefighter. Then, some rental cops in green vests arrive, and tell you to come with them. You’re under arrest.

Imagine that.

Second, you’re a federal agent. You signed up for this job because … who knows? Maybe you need to money. Maybe you’ve longed to be in law enforcement. Could be 100 reasons. And now you’re ordered to head to the Bear Gulch fire and snatch up the firefighters. How do you feel about this? Are you demoralized? Are you the asshole who thinks, “Fuck it—they’re illegal criminals and they need to go?” Are you just a bounty hunter, someone who would have fit in perfectly with Rodrigo Duterte’s death squads?

Who are you?

Third, you’re Stephen Miller. You’re a self-loathing Jew who hates fucking foreigners and all they stand for. Hates them. Brown people, too. All of' ‘em. There’s a fire. People might die. But it’s in a state that doesn’t support your David Duke vision for America. So fuck ‘em. You find out some of the firefighters might be undocumented. Again—fuck ‘em. All of ‘em. Arrest their asses and send them to a third-world prison.

And I am wondering when the Democrats, collectively, will stop being so afraid of immigration issues to step up and wrap this stuff around Donald Trump’s neck like a noose. Like, seriously, you’re arresting firefighters? As they fight fires? This is where we are as a nation? This is who we are as a nation?
