Sometimes I think, "I should run for school board" (in Saddleback Valley), but I'm always deterred by the fact that I have been mildly mean to MAGA (and a certain wacky Democratic congressional candidate) online. But honestly, I have two degrees and don't believe in banning books, so I'm way more qualified than any of these wackadoodles.
They just keep crawling out of the woodwork - this is insane. I keep saying that living in this timeline is like being awake during surgery. I cannot believe that all of this is happening.
The problem is that "normal" people do not run fur these positions, they have other things to do, like working, spending time with their friends and families, vacationing, playing golf, drinking wine, etc. You know, it some times takes a hard core kool-aid drinker to be committed to this type of endeavor. You have to have passion, commitment, and a willingness to sacrifice (not to mention a lot of availability) to pursue public office. MAGA has plenty of that, the rest of us plain old folks have lives.
I've come to admire those of us who are willing to put themselves out there on behalf of all of us and for the greater good. Not much glory in being on the school board, but MAGA is like an army of body snatchers that have taken over the political landscape and the American public is the victim. They have an agenda.
God Bless all those brave men and women who are stepping up to the challenge.
This of the three school board races gives me the worst heartburn and I’m an elder millennial, eldest daughter. I don’t need any help in that department.
I’m back to say this - if Linda Shepherd runs, people need to ask her why doesn’t she run for Santa Margarita’s board? Her kids went to school there. She has zero experience being a public school parent and no true skin in the game.
And for this guy…with no current kids in the district, he’s got no experience to start with, but even then, ask him where he will be sending his kids? If it’s not an unhesitatingly response of “Capo,” then he doesn’t have skin in the game either. Furthermore, I’d ask if he’d pre-registered his kids.
And to be clear, if not a public school parent in the district, a public school teacher or administrator would work too, even if said public school teacher/administrator doesn’t have kids.
Being old enough and being a taxpayer in the district for school board races doesn’t cut it.

While I know you live in South OC, let's not forget about another awful anti-science school board member in West Orange County -- Marie Barke -- who was fined $82,000 for failing to report her assets on her disclosure forms as a member of the Orange County Board of Education. We are lost in lots of areas, as an educator ? Profoundly mystified by the full blown 2nd grade classroom holding the entire school campus hostage by threatening to sell the vending machines. All adults duck for cover.
