Katrina Foley, hit me up ...
Do I have body odor? Is it my breath?
So for the past, oh, three or four months, I’ve very much wanted to do a high-level Q&A with Katrina Foley, the highly respected, highly regarded, perhaps-a-smidge-offputting Orange County supervisor who is in the midst of a rough re-election battle.
And, for the past, oh, three or four months, I’ve been subtly blown off.
Which I don’t get.
This website (which is 100 percent free) exists to bring (mostly) political news and information to denizens of our fine county. I write from a leftward stance, and very much want a candidate like Foley to thump Diane Dixon, her opponent and a woman who puts the title in entitled.
While I do not consider myself important or interesting or essential, the fact is myriad posts on this website often exceed 10,000 views—which translates to about 10,000 Orange County voters. And I do believe (extremely strongly) that it is incumbent upon people like Foley to speak to their constituents. That means, obviously, town halls. It means debates. It means forums. And (gasp) it means interviews with people like (double gasp) me. People who ask questions; who do their research; who won’t merely throw softballs toward the plate.
Again, I know I’m not important. Hell, I’m a sports writer disguised as a political writer. But this race is important, and I hate (like, h-a-t-e) the optics of a preferred candidate avoiding questions to nurse what (I assume Foley believes) is a small-yet-solid lead in polling.
Roughly 1 1/2 years into this wacky Truth OC experiment, Katrina Foley is literally the only Democrat to repeatedly blow this site off.
I am not (I swear) personally offended.
As a voter, however, I think it sucks.
PS: Chad Williams is a Republican city council member in Huntington Beach. He and I agree on literally nothing. I mean, I hate everything the dude stands for. But, to his credit, Williams has agreed to be interviewed—because, he said, he’s in favor of open dialogue.
PPS: The worst part? I’m a huge Katrina Foley admirer.
I'm also running for local office in (South 😫) Orange County and have crossed paths a LOT With Katrina recently. I truly think her campaign has her overbooked. She's constantly popping in, giving her spiel, then bouncing. Which kind of sucks for us local candidates who need her exposure and support! But, I also know she's in a fight for her life so I try not to take it personally. It still sucks, though. I was with a group who worked really hard to get her into city council and am a huge fan, I just wish she had time to pay it forward!
I would think she could/should take 15 minutes out of her busy day to speak with you.
