J.J. Galvez is an uber longshot to win the State Assembly District 71 race. He's also the face of young Democrats willing to stand up for righteousness.
Jeff, I love that you are interviewing and publicizing candidates. This interview is great, not only because JJ Galvez is great, but because it includes information about how politics actually works in the Democratic Party. I get so tired of people who complain about “The Democrats” as if our party had a DJT-equivalent to whom the rest of the party must bow. My answer to that complaint is “if you’re a registered Democrat, the party is YOU.” But people don’t like that answer. They prefer the cult-leader model. It’s so discouraging.
I'm very excited that JJ is in this race. He's a bright young guy with a broad perspective and view of what is important. I look forward to voting for him!
this gave me hope: what an incredible young man. Yesterday I could barely lift my heaalavezd and heart with so much bad news nationally and in the family. Today, a ray of sunshine to read about his story. JJ Galvez--you go.
Thank you so much for shining a light on this great candidate! I've been a huge JJ fan since the minute I met him canvassing for Prop 50. He has a bright future ahead of him in public service and we are all going to benefit. The margins have been greater than plus 10 in elections all over the country and almost every outcome has been a win for Democrats. I go to Sacramento every year to advocate for common sense gun laws. Only ONE Republican lawmaker met with us this year and it wasn't Kate Sanchez. Next year, I plan on walking into JJ's office to discuss life saving legislation! Let's DO this!
JJ Galvez is the real deal. In person he is just like this—forthcoming with his story, what he’s proud of, what he can do better, and very sincere about wanting to contribute.
More good news! JJ can win this if we help make it happen. Emily Gregory—a small business owner—defeated Trump-backed Republican Jon Maples in Florida’s District 87, which Trump won by 9 points in 2024. The previous Republican won this seat by nearly 20 points.
In Tampa, Navy Veteran and union organizer Brian Nathan beat Republican Josie Tomkow for a state Senate seat, after being outspent nearly seven-to-one. Tomkow conceded last night.
Since Trump returned to the White House, Democrats have flipped 29 Republican-held state legislative seats. Republicans have flipped zero. DNC Chair Ken Martin said: “If Democrats can win in Trump’s backyard, we sure as hell can win anywhere across the country.” Let’s add JJ to this list!!
Great interview. I am proud to support JJ. I met him at the Four Corners rally in Mission Viejo and the most remarkable aspect of JJ is his optimism. He’s not jaded. He has seen authoritarianism in his native country, he knows America could go that way and yet he is undeterred. And he won’t give in to the “us vs them” attitude; I think that can be a bridge to reach independent voters.
Keep it up JJ - America needs more young people like you.

I'll vote for you, JJ, and get everyone else I know to vote for you. Good job!

I spoke to JJ when he visited a coffee I attended. He is super smart, hardworking, articulate, and as he said, mission driven. I was very impressed!!
