Regrettably, this tracks with what I’ve read and thought about Varet. Yet another wealthy, thin-skinned businessperson whose reach exceeds their grasp. Having the money to run well doesn’t mean you should run. I haven’t written her off because I still have time to be persuaded but she checks several of my boxes for “Not My Candidate.” So far.

The spoiled spoiler! If there are 2 MAGAs on the ballot in Nov for CA40, it’ll be her fault.

A couple months ago she was running the most obnoxious ads on Facebook. I commented on one and immediately got a request for a donation. Not likely.

I got a reply saying I was spewing lies about her! Crickets when I asked to be corrected.

Not gonna lie, I think your wife's book cover may be better than any of yours. 😆

Based on what I’ve seen of Jeff’s posts, I feel like he’d be quite happy to hear that. :)

I love how you referenced the book title that sums up your thoughts. I often cite the title of a book my college advisor wrote that does the same: The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One That Isn't by Robert I. Sutton, PhD. Basically, don't put up with sharing space with jerks.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

I'm running for local office. I can't talk of where or what position because I need to keep my feed as private as possible because the people who won't want me in that position can use things I've said against me even though they are all true BUT... you will never see Joe Kerr react like Esther. I don't know Lisa Ramirez well enough but you haven't written about her going off Varet-style, so I can imagine she is capable of diplomatic responses IF she bothers with that.

Esther, if you're reading these, you need to calm your jets. I highly recommend short Buddhist meditation. Really, just breathe. No one is worth your time when you act in such ways. Candidate 101: you cannot react. Seriously.

I am disappointed in her attacks on her fellow Dems. Do NOT call them unpatriotic. They are both amazing people. I may not think Joe Kerry is best for the job but I do have great admiration for his career. Lisa Ramirez is an immigration attorney --doing great patriotic work.

Calling a potential constituent clueless is just so beyond the pale.

There was a time that I was actually quite excited by Esther, and willing to hold my nose on her attitude towards Israel and Palestine. Now I just don’t want to reward her style of engagement with my vote.

Vote for Joe Kerr and keep this carpetbagger and supreme moaner out of office.

Thank you for coming around to how awful she actually is. She is an immature child who wants a trophy. She needs to move on.

I met Varet at her first four corners appearance in Mission Viejo last year and she did not sit well with me. She is an elder Millennial like me, and it this point she needs to stop like this is a high school election. This is a very important congressional seat in a deadly serious and consequential election. At this point, she's the only democrat who seems to have the money and name recognition to get on the ballot in November, which is unfortunate.

I'm not doom and gloom about CA-40. Democrats have done really well in the off year and special elections. However, Ramirez and Kerr don't have the money to reach the entirety of the new district; only Varet does. That's a shame because it's really easy for either of these terrible Republicans to impune her really childish behavior.

I agree with this entirely and I also, frankly, don’t think she has the ability to support Palestinian people because she’s so emotionally pro-Israel. There is certainly a way for politicians to be both, but she in particular is too emotional. She’s too close to it, it’s personal for her, and she cannot compartmentalize.

I know this sounds sexist, so let me make it clear that the other women in this race don’t have this issue. This is Esther Kim Varet’s. And plenty of men are too emotional to be in politics as well (but unfortunately still are). I wish we could have any of the other Dem candidates because they’re all better, but they have less money and less publicity.
