Once upon a time, back when I was a young aspiring journalist at The Review, the University of Delaware’s student newspaper, I called for the firing of the men’s soccer coach. I did so in print, using 700 or so words to make the case that Loren Kline had lost the team, lost his ability to motivate, lost his ability to guide the Blue Hens toward winning seasons.

I have forever regretted my actions.

Kline was a good man, with a wife and children, and I knew far too little about soccer to demand a fellow human be canned. I was later told how much my take wounded him, and it still crushes me.

Again, I have forever regretted my actions.

The point is: Calling for someone to lose a position is no small thing. If a journalist does so, it must be for exceptional reason. It must be because a line that cannot be crossed has been crossed, and the only solution is the end of the road.

I don’t write this casually, or happily. But truth is truth and reality is reality, and earlier this week the 68-year-old retired businessman, Air Force vet and walking sack of gerbil pellets was photographed and recoded participating in his city’s post-Charlie Kirk-shooting white power march.

Yes, a member of the Huntington Beach City Council marched with those chanting, “White men fight back!”

And if you’re failing to grasp “Jews will not replace us” vibes from this whole scene, it’s only because you’re forgetting what went down in Charlottesville seven years ago, when a bunch of white supremacists not only marched in the name of racism and xenophobia, but were referred to as “very fine people” by Donald Trump.

Hell, here’s a table that was set up at the Huntington Beach event (again, attended by Butch Twining) …

This is not complicated.

This is not ambiguous.

This is not a, “Well, both sides …” thing.

This is a city council member advocating for white power. This is vile, grotesque racism at its absolute worst.

This should be, for Butch Twining, the end of his political run.

It must be.

The next Huntington Beach City Council meeting is Tuesday at 6 pm. Attend, if you can. Speak up. Speak out. Remind people that, as our nation wobbles beneath the weight of 10,000 simultaneous hells, the last thing we need is a white supremacist on the city council. Make this as clear as possible. Use the phrase: “White supremacist.” Repeat it. Over and over. Ask Butch what, exactly, “White men fight back” means. Also, while you’re at it, ask him whether it matters that Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin is (gasp) white. And a man. A white man.

And if you’re bored, maybe ask Chad Williams, Butch’s running buddy and porn lover, what, exactly, he meant when he posted this as his Instagram story on Saturday …

Should Huntington Beach’s 42,000 registered Democrats now presume one of their representatives considers them to be evil? Anti-American? Should they presume Chad no longer represents their interests? Are we all enemies of the people? Is it Chad’s way or no one’s way?

Also, while we’re at it, where was Chad’s angry response when Paul Pelosi was clubbed—and Donald Trump mocked him? Repeatedly? Where was Chad’s angry response when Josh Shapiro’s home was set aflame? When Democratic politician Melissa Hortman and her husband were murdered?

Is this where we’re at, Chad? A city council endorsing white supremacy, damning its own citizens?
