I absolutely loved Trevor’s book! It was an education for me on things I’d never learned were happening having lived my first 35 years it ruby red Idaho but grew up with a union/Democratic/immigrant family thankfully

As a retired teacher from the Newport Mesa USD (with an outstanding school board with a couple of trustees that I call friends) and a new member of the CUSD community, I will be attending the next board meeting on the 17th of this month. I’m now so curious as to why it’s so loaded with MAGA types and apparently doesn’t seem to be balanced nor focused on educational practice based on research. Thank you for your posts!

Thank you for shining a light on CapoUSD board members. I hope we can vote these people out! Born a Crime is a great book and book banning needs to stop. So does using the N word, attacking trans kids, etc etc etc. And no school vouchers!! The lack of support for public education is how we ended up with these crazy zealots.

I have read that Trevor Noah book and it is great and WHY would anyone find it objectionable?

The complaints are public record and the only complaint about it stated the word sh&t was used too many times.

Those think misogyny, olilgarchy, apartheid and racism are God's will, are certain to find it objectionable.

This is powerufl local investigative journalism right here. The core issue you're raising about residency and representation really cuts to the heart of democratic accountability in school governance. If someone's moved 1,500 miles away and literally posting from a planewhile making decisions that shape what kids read in California classrooms, that's not just quirky, it undermines the whole premise of community oversight. The fact that Board Policy 6161.1 allows this kind of proxy influence from out of state makes you wonder what other accountability gaps exist inthe system.

These dimwits sound a lot like our beloved MAGA-dominated Huntington Beach City Council…

I used to work for Ocean View School District; not sure of their current reputation, but there were & are books not allowed in the school libraries.

See also the controversy surrounding our HB library system. Censorship at work in your community.

Appreciate your reporting on these important local electeds. Is there really a religion that excommunicates a member for farting?

Local white tool continues to obsessively track the every move of a mother in the community: lanky dork Jeff Pearlman satisfies his fetish for conservative, blonde white women by obsessively typing out random and subjective details about their life online for his low-IQ Internet audience. Pearlman’s liberal echo chamber hoots back its approval on-line: “Yeah! Get ‘er , Jeff! That…dumb blonde! Who smells of vanilla citrus!” The “bestselling” sportswriter’s dumb, fifth-grade level insults on local mother actually are par for the course for a man who devotes his life to writing about the successes of other men.

The question remains: why cant Jeff Pearlman quit Amber Smith?

She sounds like a complete and utter buffoon so exposing her stupidity is mission critical to defending academic excellence. Or do you prefer the strip mall "church" nuts to destroy public school standards? I bet you are part of that moronic cult... Anyways, your orange clown has a 36% approval rate so your traitorous Putin loving, Grand 'Ol pedo party's days are numbered.

I am sure Amber still lives in California. I believe people are allowed to have more than one residence. Opening a business in another state doesn’t necessarily make you a resident of that state. The writing in this is horrible, the language atrocious. If you have children would you want them using the language in this piece?
