This column is spot on and I totally agree. I have to admit though, in a private meeting with a few constituents that was set up by a MV city council member, Young Kim admitted that the weekly Mission Viejo protests organized by SOUTHOC4DEMOCRACY are getting under her skin. I’ll take that as a small victory!
Young Kim is the ultimate political cipher. She is the opposite of a leader. We need a great candidate to begin challenging her now! My personal favorite is Christina Gagnier. Christina knows well the role of the attack on public education in Project 2025. She’s an attorney who specializes in personal privacy law. I could not be more impressed with a candidate.
Sam, Christina Gagnier will be speaking at my protest -SOUTHOC4DEMOCRACY - tomorrow. We are current having a Meet the Candidate series and she is the 4th candidate in as many weeks to speak. She will answer questions and mingle with the crowd if you have any interest in attending. We have been protesting on the corner of La Paz & Marguerite every Wednesday since Feb 5 and it runs from 12-2 pm
Protests matter! But we need to highlight bigger issues than holding a town hall - I agree. Protests should highlight the values described in the Constitution. Plus, I love that the MV protests are featuring CD 40 candidates. I also like Gagnier.
Love this: "...the power of a single arrow, as opposed to a full quiver. What we need to determine is the two or three issues that can inflict maximum damage..." Hyperbole and screaming won't get the job done. Being direct and focused in pointing out the absurdity of the positions being held will be the undoing of the insane.
We don't need to uncover anything, it's right in front of us. A Town Hall, so simple, an event that public servants like Rep Kim can communicate with her constituents. To listen, to find solutions, to understand what the message is from her constituents to take with her to DC and do the best of her abilities to do what's being asked of her. We KNOW she's not gonna do a TH. Duh. But for a Rep to not listen to her constituents demand of a Town Hall, right, left, center, to not do something so easy IS the dirt. Ignoring her constituents IS a bad look, couple that with her voting record, I'd say that's pretty ugly...
You may be right about this, I don't know, but I generally think that it's not a great look to hide from your constituents. As far as I have seen, she will only go to friendly spaces (the Republican Central Committee meeting and the Chamber of Commerce, to name a couple) and people do see that. Whether it's a town hall or generally being out in public, she doesn't seem willing to do either, and while it doesn't have to be (and isn't) the centerpiece of attacks on her, people generally do want to talk to their representatives and hear from them and I think that's why Dems going to Republican districts have actually gotten big crowds.
So right on. She is cagey and learned well from her mentor, Ed Royce. She has asked to reinstate the SALT deduction (knowing the other Rs will not support it). She claims to oppose cuts to Medicaid. When the votes come out, however, she is on the wrong side unless the GOP has secured enough votes to let her oppose. We need to narrow the field of Democrats for the 40th and soon or we will lose this important chance to take the House.
Good meeting you today at the MV library Jeff. I do think her refusal to hold a townhall does show her recklessness.
I hate to give a guy like Mike Lawler any credit, but he is holding a bunch of townhalls, and his removal of older ladies who ask reasonable questions is not a good look.
Anyway, there are other ways to show her recklessness. One good way is just to throw her own words back in her face. Like this Young Kim quote on tariffs in the Register from Feb: "Tariffs often end up being a tax on the American consumer that will force families to stretch budgets even more and hurt the bottom line for small businesses as prices go up due to tariffs on imported goods. Tariffs imposed on our partners and allies often lead to retaliation, harming industries that sell their products abroad and strain important relationships." Okay, great. Then why did you vote to advance a budget blueprint that locks in the president's emergency authority to make tariff policy by tweet? You could do this on a variety of issues...Medicaid, USAID, etc. She seems to say she loves all these things, but when push comes to shove, she votes MAGA.
Don't misinterpret my comments, but as much as your info hits the mark, your use of some of your language, like brah & cuss words, seems to discredit your intent. There are better ways to say what you do without sounding like a lesser intelligent individual. Just saying!!!!

Thanks Jeanne!
Perhaps a deep dive into the lawsuit against her husband Charles that was filed weeks before the election.

But seriously...why all the Ishtar hate?!?
There is so much absurdity in politics nowadays, it would be humorous if it wasn't so frightening.

Great analogy of the villains of OC
