WINNERS: Readers of the Truth OC.

Loser, Mr Pearlman? NOT. Buck up, you have the talent, insight and fortitude to inform the electorate on OC. Desperately needed. Carry on, we are with you!

Meade is very politically savvy, has good political instincts. Works closely with David Hogg and the Leaders We Deserve PAC, definitely someone to watch in the future!

I would disagree. My experience with him is he flakes out about communicating with (at least this) major donor. TWICE. Once and maybe it is a fluke. Twice and it’s a pattern. He gives me Harley Rouda vibes. Enough said there.

Useful information. Didn't hear much of anything about this candidate. Showed up at Mission Viejo 4-corners, though at least once I believe.

Chris Kirkpatrick! I can't get Bye Bye Bye out of my head now. (Attended many N'Sync shows as the designated driver!) Thanks for keeping me in stitches throughout this campaign. I do hope that both Joe and Lisa find a spot that will be successful for them.

Can any readers comment with respect to Young Kim as "she’s genuinely thought of as a kind and decent sort"? I've never seen her in a townhall, no meet-and-greet, no interacting with socials, no response to phone calls. If you find her as kind and decent, in what context did you interact with her, or is this just based on her media presence from her handlers in socials, photo op events, and so forth?

Elel's avatar

100% agree. Kim has ignored everything and everyone. When her team (writing as if it were her) would ever respond to my emails that I used to send daily? It was all total BS and never addressed directly what I wrote about. I gave up a couple months ago only writing on occasion after that.

CoralSparkle's avatar

Thanks. We agree on this. Even a moderated Zoom townhall would be better than nothing, realizing they would screen and cherry pick questions. There's just no interaction with the general public. She does have private meetings with some Chamber of Commerce, but that's an inner circle not open to the public.

Tom's avatar

Yeah, I don't buy that at all. She has rubber stamped Trump's entire authoritarian agenda without a peep while stonewalling her entire constituency. That's inherently disqualifying for any decent person.

CoralSparkle's avatar

Agree on those two points.

janeybird's avatar

Not a fan, at all. But she does show up to a lot of our local City and school board events - big things like ribbon cuttings and smaller things like our recent Villa Park 5K. I see her around VP a lot actually.

Thanks for your insight.

Good 'ol Esther is free to go back to selling art... Going to miss her, her husband, and their paid trolls showing up here to argue with posters.

Good recap. I hope Lisa Ramirez and Perry Meade keep trying for political office as I think they would both be excellent. And I hope this is the last we hear from Esther.

janeybird's avatar

Agreed! School boards and city council need more candidates like Lisa. The Lincoln Club of Orange County is heavily finding candidates in down ballot races - up to $100,000 per candidate for the 4 who are running against incumbents in Orange Unified School District.. If they have $400,000 to spend, maybe they should consider donating it to schools?

Winner in CA-47 - Troutman's sign company.

Elel's avatar

Oh, absolutely! EKV's sign printer came in second, for sure 😂

I always enjoy your blog. Keep up the good work. Just because the primary is over, doesn't mean there won't be things to talk about. And, as far as ice cream, I've never been to Handels so I can't comment on it but I'd encourage you to try Brusters in Dana Point. It's my absolute favorite ice cream place anywhere- maybe because they have two different peanut butter centric ice creams. Try it- it's fantastic.

Great call on Handels

Losers: The Dems in CA40. We knew we had no chance, but we still worked our butts off. I wish the CADEM leadership would have endorsed a candidate, that way our 40% of the votes wouldn’t be split 5 ways and we could have gone on to November. Sure to lose anyway, but we would have at least had a dog in the fight. Lisa was my candidate—hoping she stays in the game at the local level.

CoralSparkle's avatar

A CADEM endorsement would not prevent voters from voting for any Democrat, Republican, or Independent on the ballot. The vote would still be split. It's unclear how much weight voters assess to such an endorsement. Particularly those on the more Progressive/Left side, a CADEM endorsement does not necessarily align with their priorities. It still could tip the balance in a close Primary, so your point is taken.

Winners: Truth OC readers no longer having to block Joseph Varet's various burner accounts!

Handicapping current results, you'll see if Esther dropped out Lisa Ramirez may have scooped enough votes for the win? Not enough blue pie for both in CA-40.

Tom's avatar

Results are interesting given that Esther was politicking here for votes because she was the only Dem who was electable. My how wrong that turned out to be

JWhite156's avatar

Esther had way too much money invested to drop out.

Young Kim is up against a white (non-immigrant, presumably) male while appealing to a bigoted demographic for which that’s a big bonus— and for which her gender, race, and status as an immigrant are all reasons not to vote for her. I always thought Calvert would win for that reason.

CoralSparkle's avatar

Many people do vote for reasons not associated with the actual policies of the candidates.

Community of Hope's avatar

It’s very discouraging that anyone votes for “Trump Republicans” and the trend of big upsets didn’t happen in OC. The lack of voter turnout is the biggest problem, along with lack of informed voters. How can people not be paying attention? Thank you for entertaining those of us who care about democracy, decency, and the rule of law!
