Picture someone you know who has 0 integrity. Then take away the remainder of that person's integrity. You're left with the chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County.
It is appropriate to have the photo at the fair. It captures a reality of our culture, it evokes emotion, and that is what art is supposed to do. At the same time, if someone was holding up a sign with a similar message directed toward Katie Porter (who had and undoubtedly still has incredible vitriol thrown at her) I would find it deeply offensive. I don’t love that these kids were holding up these signs. At that age, I wouldn’t have allowed my kids to do so. And I defend the right of the kids in the photo to do so.
My guess is that he would say, “the fair is a family affair and we shouldn’t subject our children to that kind of hateful messaging.” To which I’d ask, how many city officials did he contact to complain about the ubiquitous 6x9’ giant flags that red “Fuck Biden” at the red pop-up tents all over town?
Those are kids of color in the photo. That undoubtedly also triggered him. How dare they have a voice?

Amen!
It still baffles me that people can be so banal as to parrot these ridiculous and hypocritical positions.
