So I woke up this morning, scrolled the ol’ IG and came upon this video …
If you don’t recognize the women, it’s OC Supervisor Janet Nguyen alongside Gracey Van Der Mark, QAnon sympathizer, Huntington Beach City Council member, telephone booth licker and candidate for State Assembly (by the way, bravo to the OC Register for slashing apart her awful record in this piece).
And they’re worried about flooding.
Like, really worried about flooding.
Like, so worried about flooding that Gracey read 70 percent of her script without tripping over words. Like, so worried about flooding that Gracey dropped the red trench coat for the “Look, we’re being serious” outfit of jeans and Chucks.
And, on the one hand—there’s nothing wrong with the surrounded-by-flooding content of the message. We do need to be aware, store batteries, help our neighbors. So, good job. But, on the other hand—despite living on the coast, and watching the beaches drift away, neither Nguyen nor Van Der Mark have expressed even a slight belief that climate change and rising tides are problems. Neither woman has studied the science, dove into the issue, challenged the MAGA lines that, “There’s more ice than ever!” or “It’s all a liberal hoax.” Nope, nope, nope, nope.
They have done, quite literally, nada.
So as they stood alongside the flooding, reading off the intern’s phone and desperate to pose in front of the nearest Cheesecake Factory, neither Nguyen nor Gracey deserve the benefit of the doubt.
They’re just political profiteers.
Profiteering.
