Surrender isn't an option.

Watch Ken Burn's timely released doc series on the American Revolution. Nothing came easy. Family members fought family members (see Benjamin Franklin).

This has to implode. It can't sustain this amount of incompetent idiocy. When it collapses upon itself, that may be even more sad to watch than what we see now.

Preserve your energy. Lay low when needed. Don't get sucked into diversions. The truth always wins even if some can't handle it, try to distort it or flat out lie. Keep telling the truth in a decent, kind, rational way. Your integrity matters. Call together friends to see what you can do together. Stand vigil outside the Federal Building. Be present.

Stay safe.

Yesterday, Jan 6, was soul crushing to relive. Especially with the delusional MAGA folks who want to rewrite it.

this all hurts. Lean into our pain and keep fighting.

Let me add another item to the list - that vague feeling of impending nausea upon learning of his latest escapade that irreparably soils our once great and proud nation.

Feel you. It can crush one's soul; Saturday's news was the bottom for my spirits. My survival strategy since he resumed office is: everyday do something to participate in the resistance AND do something everyday to find joy. Today it was the Iris blooming in my yard. Be well, friends. We will get through this.

Charge! Forward! We're behind you, dear Jeff1! As an erstwhile sports writer, you know we're not playing games with these power-mad politicos, who are ignoring the rule book that is our constitution. Keep up the good work!

Thank you Jeff. It's been a rough week and I feel gutted that the good guys are the ones getting hammered....Mark Kelly, Tim Walz, etc. While ICE roams the streets killing people with impunity and our president casually shit-posts about invading allies

No matter what you do, half the country supports Trump’s madness. The country is permanently lost. We have retired abroad. Good riddance to the MAGA-infested U.S. Fuck Trump and all his voters…and fuck those Democrats who were too lazy to vote in 2024.

I think more people will be joining the resistance because of recent egregious abuses. It's the weight of Trump's horrible actions that feel so crushing and it's this weight that they are depending on to crush our spirit. Keep writing and shaming and screaming and resisting to keep our spirit and actions alive.

The US military removed a despot dictator who caused 1/3 of his population to flee, as the resources were being drained to benefit world powers seeking to undermine the US economy directly and subversively. I was in Colombia and Venezuela in the 90's, learning the dynamics of American exploitation and helping them put new mitigating policies in place, only to have Maduro step in and step all over his people. It's up to the people of South America to see if they can step up and grow into responsible neighbors and world partners. A premier NYC arts venue added the name of another President who is giving the American people an opportunity to ask not what the country can do for them, but what they can do for their country. Let the schools focus on math, reading and science, so our universities don't need to add remedial math and writing to their already expensive curriculums.

Keep up the piss and vinegar, those living in the light can't be deterred.

You think Trump did this to promote international democracy?

No, I think the United States took action under the Trump Administration. It is my experience, having worked both setting and implementing federal and state policies that politicians have 2 jobs: 1) raise money and 2) get elected - aside from that, they gather initiatives and vetted staff like Secretary of State Rubio, to implement policies that have long been in the works. Obama's ACA was written about by Nixon and all candidates have "tested" public will for policies on both sides of every hotbed political issue. You're a writer, do investigating into what candidates on both sides have called for Maduro's replacement. Let's say goodbye to mass media newsbytes subsidizing the polling industry beyond reason. Please, let's just focus on sound policies, not theatrics about personalities.
