The Westminster City Council has lost its damn mind.
Did Charlie Kirk ever actually visit your town? Hell, had he even heard of it?
So in case you missed this, last week the Westminster City Council voted 4-to-1 to transform the All American Way street signs between 13th Street and Westminster Boulevard into postings that also read Charlie Kirk Way. The street runs parallel to the municipality’s Vietnam War Memorial.
The geniuses have also designated Oct. 14 to be—forever—”Charlie Kirk Day.”
The idea was brought forth by Chi Charlie Nguyen, Westminster’s mayor and a dude with way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way too much free time. And by, “Way too much free time,” I mean—seriously, Mayor Nguyen, this is the sort of shit you’re focused on? This? With your city’s budget in ruins?
And, to be clear:
First, we don’t actually know if Charlie Kirk ever visited Westminster.
Second, we don’t actually know if Charlie Kirk ever heard of Westminster.
Third, here is a list of some of the famous people from Westminster:
• Ken Hoang: Professional Super Smash Bros. Melee player and television personality.
• Debbie Cook, former Huntington Beach mayor.
• Joon Park, lead singer of the Korean pop group, g.o.d.
• Geoff Zanelli, noted film and TV composer.
• Sylvia Mendez, Civil Rights activist and winner of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
• Dylan Rieder, professional skateboarder.
Trivia: How many of those folks—literal products of Westminster—have a street named after them within the city boundaries? Answer: None. And that includes Rieder, who competed in the X Games from 2011 to 2013 and Street League Skateboarding from 2010 to 2013, was featured as a model in DKNY’s spring 2014 advertising campaign and who … died of leukemia in 2016.
So why, dear God, name a street for a slain right-wing agitator who brought (quite literally) nothing to your city and who (quite literally) was a divisive force in American politics? Answer: Because Douchey McGouchey (aka: Chi Charlie Nguyen) is running for Congress next year in a conservative area, and he needs to prove his Trump-ish bonafides. That is, literally, the reason Westminster will be spending approximately $3,000 of taxpayer funds to change the signage, even after residents filled the latest council meeting and blasted the move as (rightly) partisan nonsense. Because Nguyen is hoping to earn Daddy Trump’s attention and, hopefully, an endearing pat atop the head. Good Chi Charlie. Good boy …
And I wanna say something, on a personal level—something that, sincerely, has nothing to do with right or left: This Westminster garbage is some ghoulish, grotesque shit. A man dies. Tragically. He leaves behind a wife, children. We all saw it, and it was chilling. I’m being sincere: Whatever your stance on Kirk’s politics may be, he was a husband and father with a long life ahead of him. His murder sucks.
But these people, like Chi Charlie Nguyen, aren’t actually honoring Charlie Kirk. They’re using him, his moniker, his death purely for political points. It’s not in the name of memorializing a lost hero. Were that the case, Westminster would have been home to Dylan Rieder Lane a decade ago. No, this is 100-percent about soulless politics; about winning a local election on the name, blood and murder of Charlie Kirk.
It’s not a proud act.
It’s a disgusting one.

The gross irony to me, is that Charlie Kirk helped power young evangelicals to embrace Trump’s MAGA movement which would cheerfully deport half of Westminster’s residents if they could.
I hope that room full of constituents at the city council meeting votes him out and it inspires some sane people to replace him and others who voted for this “honor”. Westminster can’t let hate win!
