The crazy hypocrisy of cowardly Pat Burns
A former cop seems cool with the pardoning of those who attacked law enforcement. But peaceful protest? Eh, not so great. Only in Huntington Beach. Only in (MAGA) America.

Asking one to select the craziest hard-right Huntington Beach political figure is like asking one to select the worst Vanilla Ice song. Put different—they’re all terrible in uniquely fun and quirky ways.
For example, Huntington Beach’s Gracey Van Der Mark is a member of the City Council with first-generation immigrant parents who seems to be, inexplicably, hard-core anti-immigration. Another council member, Tony Strickland, once served as vice chair of the Senate Committees on Health and Environmental Quality—yet doesn’t seem to believe climate change is a serious problem … for a fucking coastal city. Another gem, Butch (Always Winning) Twining, long ago enlisted in the United States Air Force—yet has never, ever, ever, ever uttered a public peep about Donald Trump literally mocking POWs for being captured (Because, hey, cowardice>>>honor).
For my dough, however, the nuttiest of the nuts, the strawberriest of the jams, the Hammer of MCs, has to be Pat Burns, currently Huntington Beach’s mayor and a dude waaaaay too old to be wearing Hawaiian shirts to official city council meetings.
And if you’ve never heard of Pat Burns, at least there’s a pretty good chance you’ve heard Pat Burns. That’s because, earlier this week, he was the one barking like a horny Dobermann at Chris Kluwe during the former Minnesota Viking’s mini-protest during a City Council meeting.
Here’s the video …
And Burns is … hmm. How to explain? He’s that guy—which is to say, the worst guy. But not just the worst guy. The worst guy in that, “Hey everyone, Pat has no integrity” sorta way. Why? Because he’s a former Long Beach police officer. Which means he knows what comes with working in law enforcement. He knows the hardship. He knows the risks. He knows that every … single … day one puts on a uniform, he is targeted. And that, with a singular out-of-nowhere violent exchange, a cop can be on the wrong end of a mortality’s completion.
Here, this is literally from his website.
Yet Pat Burns—veteran police officer and man of law and order—proudly supports Donald Trump. When the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol took place, he uttered nary a public peep. When Capitol Police Officers were injured, he uttered nary a public peep. And, more recently, when all the rioters were pardoned and set free, he uttered nary a public peep. Think about that. Truly, think about that. The president of the United States allows people who maced, punched and tased police officers to go free, and this coward says …
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
Literally zip.
It gets worse. Pat Burns, MAGA dumpling boy, was a big backer of the inane Huntington Beach Library plaque that will honor his lord and savior. And, even with his far-right leanings, I just don’t get it. Does Donald Trump referring to himself as a king not bother you, Pat? Does Donald Trump mocking the disabled not bother you, Pat? Does Donald Trump referring to military as “suckers” and “losers” not bother you, Pat? Does Donald Trump lying (repeatedly) about being a Sept. 11 hero not bother you, Pat? Hell, you brag on your website about teaching about sexual harassment. Does Donald Trump bragging (literally bragging) about grabbing women by the pussies not bother you, Pat?1 Even a little, bruh? A tiny bit?
And, as Chris Kluwe stepped up and spoke out, Burns did that fake-tough-guy yodel thing that fake tough guys nail. Deep voice, fists clenched—”Hey, you!” But it’s not real. It can’t be real. Huntington Beach’s mayor is merely another small, wimpy Trump slave who would gladly fondle Zod’s crystals in exchange for a selfie and a smile.
Pat Burns was a police officer.
He had honor.
He had pride.
He had patriotism.
He surrendered it—for what?
For nothing.
PS: The Huntington Beach City Council looks like a state fair boy band reunion tour. But not in a good way. Like, in an O-Town way.
PPS: Pat is Danny Wood.
Dude, you literally have two daughters. How does this shit not bother you? How is it not disqualifying?
I believe his sexual harassment trainings were a How To
When you say he TAUGHT police academy classes in Cultural Awareness, Hostile Work Environment, and Sexual Harassment, I have to assume you mean HE TAUGHT THEM HOW TO do those things! After all, those are he primary contributions to the HB City Council. He’s really at it on the dias — calling female speakers ‘cows’, library workers ‘pedophiles and groomers’, and creating such a until hostile and unethical work environment that most of the senior staff has left.
