So since setting aside my longtime journalism substack to start this Truth OC adventure, oh, seven weeks ago, a good number of people have generously signed up for paid subscriptions.
And, if I’m keeping it real, I wasn’t initially aware I even offered paid subscriptions. But it turns out I did, and people were being generously supportive.
Here’s what I’d like to say …
• 1. My intent is for this website to be 100 percent free. And it will remain 100 percent free. I am not charging, I never will charge, there is no benefit (as far as product, gifts, etc.) one receives by becoming a paid subscriber. I just think, in this world, it’s nice to know that some people simply want to do the righteous thing. That’s me with the Truth OC—I’m frustrated and angry and scared for our country, and felt it worthwhile to try and become a quality messenger.
• 2. That said … if you’ve donated—thank you! If you do donate in the future—thank you! Here is what I promise: Every dollar (literally every … single … dollar) donated to this site will be spent on progressive politics in Orange County. That might mean signs and stickers for rallies. It might mean paying to attend some events worth covering. That might mean, come campaign season, pitching in to particular fights where the funds are needed. Again: I did not start this to make money. I have a good career and financial stability. I started this to fight back. My entire aim here is to bring the heat and tackle the MAGA infection.
• 3. I want to reiterate: Feel no pressure to pay for anything here. None. Zero. Zip. I want to keep people informed and aware. That’s it, that’s all.
Have a good Sunday!

PS: I can be reached at datruthoc@gmail.com. I’m always looking for ideas to cover.
PPS: Last week the Los Angeles Times profiled my efforts. It was super cool and flattering, and my subscriptions blew up. So, hey. Let’s keep brawling.
I actually searched for how to pay for a subscription! You are such a strong, reasonable, intelligent voice and hell yeah, I appreciate free but I truly would pay for your content 💙
For some people a substack is their sole means of making money. Especially for news people who lost there jobs. I wish more of them were a bit more free. Some you have to pay for anything. We don't get much news from the media anymore. I think there are probably a lot of substackers that don't need the money and could do it for free
