It’s a campaign post from Assemblywoman Laurie Davies, the incumbent in the 74th and a public figure who seems 99 percent likely to retain her seat. In these parts, the former Laguna Niguel mayor is familiar, present and fairly well-regarded for not being a complete and total asshole. Did she vote for Trump? Certainly. Is she courageous enough to speak out against the national ugliness? No. Is she evil? Certainly not. She’s just a fairly run-of-the-mill regional political figure.
She has also, however, stooped to an unbecoming low.
As you can see, the campaign post features an image of her opponent, former San Juan Capistrano Mayor Sergio Farias—with his skin darkened beneath a lizard-like hue. For comparison’s sake, here’s what the dude actually looks like …
And if there’s one thing I know about political advertisements, nothing is accidental. The wording is precise and deliberate. The colors are there for a reason. And fuckery with photos isn’t just an intern messing up. It’s meant to be.
In this case, Davies (as white as fresh snow) is intentionally labeling Farias as the scary and dark outsider. Hell, it’s not just the blackened, green skin. The wording screams, BE AFRAID! and SOCIALIST IN OUR MIDST! and LOVES GANG BANGERS! What you are witnessing is the marriage of doctored photo and scary phrases into one nonsense piece of cardboard.
Truth be told, Farias is a revered and admired public servant who deserves better. These are, in the truest sense, local races, where community and kindness should matter. There are things you can do and things you 100-percent should not.
This should not have been done.
Not really understanding the confusion over this one. Yes, she is obviously evil. Anyone, especially someone as plugged in as she must be, who voted for trump in 2024, is evil. It's pretty black and white. It's a very tough situation and I honestly don't know how we deal with it as a nation going forward, but those are the facts.
Most of the Democrats are receiving racists mail from the GOP and the Lincoln Club. And Sergio is on Tracy to bear Davies and she is scared. In Tustin Letitia Clark also has been the target in her bid for Mayor and all the incumbents for school board in OUSD.
