Latino Outreach is the key to CA-40
Young Kim has been a green light for all things ICE. Let's drill home that point.
With ICE raids going down all over Southern California and Latino men and women existing as the clear targets, I am going to begin this post by listing all the things Young Kim has said and done in defense of the approximately 69,5000 Hispanic voters who reside within the boundaries of CA-40.
Here you go …
…
And, that’s it.
Literally, nothing. Nada. Not a thing. Young Kim, the CA-40 congresswoman, has taken no action whatsoever to defend the people being chased and trapped like wild animals. She hasn’t demanded Donald Trump cease his behavior. She has not called out Stephen Miller as a grotesque aspiring Nazi thug. She has not asked for compassion, understanding, empathy. Her biggest skill: Smiling a lot. She is an empty vessel who talks moderately but never stands up to her king.
Never.
Never.
Never.
The silver lining within the ugliness, however, is, this is how a Democratic candidate wins next year and begins to put a stop to this madness. In the leadup to Kim v. Joe Kerr last year, Democracy in Color offered up this interesting take on the Latino impact on CA-40 …
And, ultimately, Kim captured both the election and the Latino vote. But that was before masked agents began kidnapping people. That was before brown men and women were targeted, dragged away and deported. That was before Latinos had to look both ways before leaving their homes.
This is a new world, and if the local Democratic Party is wise, it’ll make ICE agents the face of the election. Attach them to Young Kim. Make it about her fecklessness. Because of Young Kim, people live in fear. Because of Young Kim, almost 70,000 CA-40 residents don’t feel safe. Because of Young Kim, the local gardener would have vanished. The nanny down the street would have vanished. Your accountant, your grocer, your neighbor, your pal.
Gone.
We can’t just discuss this.
We need to hammer it home.
Hard.
A huge challenge will be getting Latinos out to vote. We need a concerted campaign about mail-in ballots. I can just see ICE waiting at the polling places.
The cities in 40th read like a throwback to old OC: Brea, Yorba Linda, Coto, Anaheim Hills, Mission V, etc. It is no wonder that the only time she opposed the Trump agenda was in supporting the increase of the SALT deduction from 10K to 40K. I guess they drew Fullerton and some other more heterogenious cities out of the 40th since Gil was incumbent?
