Hi Amy. I signed up for phone banking just now but previously when I looked at the phone banking the site mentioned that volunteers would need to do a one time training. I didn’t see that now.
Hi Haitham, Thanks for signing up. They usually will do a quick training for those who need it and let others who don't just go straight to making the phone calls. I can double-check for you.
I just heard back from the campaign, they will train when you join. No experience needed. I would, however, check out her website on your own and become familiar with why YOU want to see her re-elected. It makes for better and more authentic conversations. THANK YOU for doing this very important work!
I just made a contribution to the Foley campaign. Jeff Pealman, you are "one bad-ass motherfucker" and a "helluva" writer and journalist. Keep up the good work.
Thank you. Katrina is a warrior goddess. Two other OC Supervisor candidates need our help as well: Vicente “Vince” Sarmiento needs to be re-elected, and Connor Traut needs to be elected. Vince has been an anti-ICE hero (ICE has targeted the heavily-immigrant communities he serves) and Connor has years of steadfast and effective community service. Just like the House of Representatives, we need to focus on getting a Dem majority on the Board of Supervisors. Jeff, I hope you can interview Vince and Connor as well. All three of these public servants have earned my respect and gratitude.
Here’s the thing and this is important: an environmental group in South OC called The Creek Team is pushing for action to ban herbicide use in the creeks but they are apparently politically motivated. They seem to wear the mantle of environmental crusader from a MAHA POV and ignoring the fact that liberals/Democrats have been environmental crusaders for decades. I went to Katrina Foley’s townhall in Dana Point about the creek herbicide use. Not only did she meet with The Creek Team and hold a townhall but she gave 2 leaders of The Creek Team seats on the dais. She brought professionals from the county and state to explain to concerned citizens about herbicide use and regulation, levee construction and the constraints that come about from balancing environmental concerns with flood risk. She committed openly and explicitly to NO MORE HERBICIDE USE in San Juan and Trabuco Creeks. If The Creek Team was about accountability than what more can they ask for? Apparently the townhall was a springboard to campaign against Katrina Foley and support Diane Dixon. As if Dixon gives a shit about the environment.
As a 63-yearlong Dem and 59-years Costa Mesan, I canvassed for Katrina's first campaign for city council...hmmm...in 2001...(my 84 year-old memory sucks!) Have supported her with canvassing and beaucoup bucks ever since! Katrina is what I like to call "mean, lean and ugly." Again, she's got my vote this time around...and my beaucoup bucks!
If you want a realistic sense of how Katrina Foley spends her time sign up for her weekly newsletter. She is busy all day long in the community, doing all the things to make government both better and more accessible for all of us! Thank you for this reminder to work hard to keep her in office!
Let me start by stating that I will most assuredly vote for Foley over her opponent for all of the reasons you state in your masterful essay. That said, I would be a more enthusiastic Foley supporter if she were more responsive to her constituents. I wrote her office on two occasions seeking additional information regarding a specific issue in her/our district and didn’t receive as much as an acknowledgement, much less a response to my question. I realize that this is probably the failing of one of her staffers who is charged with answering constituent questions - obviously she doesn’t personally respond to every inquiry, a full-time job in itself - but this is something that she should hold them accountable for, as failing to do so gives the appearance of not caring (looking at you Young Kim and Mimi Walters).
You can also help by calling neighbors or knocking on their doors on her behalf. Here's the phone bank link: https://www.mobilize.us/theunion/event/908061/. To knock doors in Laguna Hills, sign up here: https://www.mobilize.us/teamhb/event/932837/, and to knock doors in San Juan Capistrano, sign up here: https://www.mobilize.us/teamhb/event/933182/. And, yes, she's amazing and worth an investment to keep her in office!

Hi. I’ve done phone banking for Prop 50 but may need some info as far as talking points etc.

She's speaking to the Canyon Dems May 19th if you want to meet her.
Done. Thanks for the heads up. Didn't know MAGA was after the 5th district seat.

Thank you for the clarity and endorsement - I donated!
