Enormous props to Vern Nelson, who runs the fantastic Orange Juice Blog and often sends me links to different posts he’s offered the world.1
In particular, I want to note one that I missed, beneath the headline, ICE’S FIELD DAY IN ANAHEIM. It detailed a recent hellscape in Anaheim, where a slew of overzealous, masked ICE agents showed up at a car wash, dropped canisters of tear gas and managed a single arrest—that of an American citizen named Isaac Dominguez who is, without debate, precisely the type of dude we need right now.
As Nelson details, Dominguez stood up to the cowards, and committed the apparently unforgivable crime of not throwing a water bottle at them. Instead, he pump-faked a throw, thereby leading toward his violent tackling.
Here, watch …
As Vern notes in his spot-on article, Dominguez was thrown to the ground, violently arrested, then released hours later. If you watch one thing today, make it the following KCAL interview, where he explains he stood up for folks in need and did the right thing because … it was right.
In these awful times, when an orange authoritarian is playing Hitler II: Electric Boogaloo, people like this are needed more than ever.
I urge all of us to channel our inner Isaac Dominguez.
To fight for righteousness.
To stand tall.
To remember what happens to those who do nothing.
An important thing to say: There are no rivalries when it comes to folks like myself, Vern, other left-leaning local scribes. We all just want the truth out–hard stop.
Grateful for him and you all as well.
Sob 😭
