You are sooooo right! Ego is the enemy. Also voters are so picky & focus on one thing they don’t like about a candidate & say “I could never vote for them”because of something insignificant to the big picture! Local activists are exhausted. We have to get on the same page with the 3 viable candidates period‼️

Amen. The problem is to get these folks to drop out there is usually a party leader dangling incentives to do so. Is Newsom looking after CA or just himself? Swalwell is the least likable, Steyer is a billionaire which raises trust issues, and Katie Porter has disappeared after being media torpedoed. No matter, there needs to be a consolidation so we don’t let the wacko MAGAS take the reins.

I'm with Jeff.

Also: it's obviously too easy to make the ballot. There should never be this many names to choose from. It's unreasonable for the voters to have to do this much research. The media can never give adequate coverage to this many people.

California could limit the ballot access to the 8 candidates who gather the most signatures, a good proxy for the campaigns that have an apparatus to form a winning strategy.

Exactly. Why the hell Villaraigosa ever got into this race is mystery -- his two terms as mayor of LA were distinguished by his affair with a hot Latina news reporter, and not much else. I think you nailed it: he's 73 years old and bored. The rest -- other than the three you mention -- are like children at Thanksgiving clamoring to sit at the adult's table.

God damn, they need to grow up and get OUT!

I say, let’s get to down to two, a more progressive candidate and a more centrist. If the big egos at the end won’t drop out, the progressives Dems should pick someone (Ro Khanna endorsed Steyer, go figure) and the more centrists endorse someone else and get the word out. I don’t care who they pick at this point.

Joe & RBG's ego is why we are here now. Id prefer just 2 Dems in the race right now but here we are. Jess Craven from Chop wood Carry Water created an excellent email template along with the email addresses for the three Jeff mentions as well as Tony Thurmond. Easy peazy to send an email to all four of them and any others to drop out NOW!

Can you please share the link or info? Somehow I missed that. Thanks!

It is a shame that Kamala decided not to pursue the governorship in favor of an eventual run for the presidency again. It seems unlikely she will earn the Democratic nominee, let alone be elected as our president. That is a shame. If she wanted it, I think she could have rather easily won the election in California, and done a great job. But like you said, it is all about ego.

In my opinion, Tom Steyer should get out. He's just a guy with money. There's nothing about him which suggests he'd be a good governor. Katy Porter should also get out. She let us down by quitting her seat in Congress. Those of us who worked hard to elect her, and gave her money, won't forget that betrayal. She's overly ambitious and with Katy Porter it's always, always all about her.

As best I can tell, it’s now too late for any candidate to withdraw and have their name removed from the June 2 ballot.

With that reality, Democratic candidates who have no viable path to victory need to do more than quit. They should actively support the strongest Democratic contenders—by campaigning for them, endorsing them publicly, and using their websites and platforms to help consolidate support.

If the goal is to win, unity and coordinated effort matter.
