It’s tough, Jeff, but we persevere…

A judge ordered the HB City Council to pay $1 million in legal costs for censoring books. So that’s something!

Good advice!! I’ve never been so tired & agitated! The lack of values, macho tough guy stuff is so repulsive! We need megadoses of decent people to surround ourselves with—like you! Giving up is Unforgivable (the title of Former US Attorney Joyce Vance) is where we’re at for our kids & their future! Hang in there you’re doing a great job‼️

Just picked up a like-new copy of this wonderful book at Old Town Tustin bookshop Arvida Book Co., to give to my husband (I already listened to the audiobook.).

Hang in there, you don't even know how much good you are doing for everyone right now! One goddamn foot in front of the other.

Naps are good. This country is just bonkers. I always love it when you turn that razor sharp wit to local politics.

There's a lot of good material there including my itty bitty city of RSM where we have a Mayor & city councilmembers clinging to power like they are in Trump's cabinet. Not enough people are paying attention to local politics. It's gotten way harder. IMO, that's where you can really make a difference. Thanks for all you do.

Literally just took a short snooze. The rest is as important as the fight.

That is what "flooding the zone" is for - to make everyone too tired to function. My advice...

1. Pick one thing you can do, the stick to that. Don't try to do everything!

2. Pick a handful of news sources and ignore the rest. That way you stay informed but not overwhemed. Turn off the TV news - reading is quicker and more informative.

3. I personally do not listen to what Mango Moussolini is doing. What ever he does today, he will do something equally despicable tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, ad infinitum. I usually hear about it from others, but if I don't, I might just as well use my imagination, so why waste time and energy on constant adrenaline spikes?

4. Most important: The deep breathing, the naps, the "time out" to go for a walk, watch a movie, play video games. Eat. Do laundry. Dinner with friends/family/people you want to know better. Don't bury your humanity. Bread, yes, but also roses.

We are engaged in a marathon, not a sprint. It will not be over when we flip Congress in November - we will still have lots to do. Think of your own long term survival until your kids and grandkids are ready to take up the baton.

Yes, we WILL flip Congress in November, because there are more of us than there are of them, and we are, each of us, doing what we have the bandwidth to do.

I don't let all this get the best of me. Sometimes they get the worst, and it's a time waste. Stay upright and productive. Find something meaningful and purposeful. Like this substack. You are helping a lot of us stay informed. Onward and upward.

Every day gets harder an harder with that lunatic in office.

Action is the antidote for despair! Your articles inspire and inform us. I am obsessed with getting out the vote in Mission Viejo and appreciate the coverage of local politics and support of human decency and common sense. Not to mention the rule of law and constitution! We have important races on the ballot in June and November that require voter turnout for success. Thank you for your support!

Alright, alright… naps are good just don’t collapse from exhaustion—sway like a palm tree in a breeze and trust the ending’s gonna stick! Zen master Art has spoken 😄

That doesn't even look like trump. Maybe as a narcissistic, he still views himself ten years younger and about 20lbs lighter.

Avocado toast ... wow. You've come a long way from New York, Jeff.

But yeah, it's utterly exhausting, this relentless drumbeat of terminal stupidity radiating out from Washington DC and beyond. That anyone -- ANYONE -- can still support this Mango Mussolini absolutely boggles my mind ... I truly do not understand. It's like some Marvel Comics episode where the sum total of all the dumbass evil in our country has congealed into one greasy lump in the septic tank that is the White House these days, and they're steering our ship straight into the iceberg while the band plays on.

And it just gets worse with each fucking day.

I dunno. The mission Cole Thomas was on didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding, but at least he tried to do something real to stop this madness. I give him credit for that.

Jeanne's avatar

I can’t help but wonder if it was literally an act of desperation, what Cole Thomas did. ☹️☹️☹️

That's what it feels like to me. Like Howard Beale in "Network," he just couldn't take it anymore.

I am utterly exhausted, but we all know that is the point to make us feel overwhelmed and give up. I just want you to know that seeing you at the various events throughout Orange County is so re-energizing so please keep it up!

Thanks, Jeff, I needed that!
