I was just there last week on a tour with my daughter and the young guide was talking about their DEI programs and remember thinking "good for them". Really sad and disappointed to hear.
We should start to think of the responses of Poland and Hungary to authoritarianism. In a Poland the people organized and pushed back, in Hungary they submitted to the fear and complied. We’re starting to look a lot like a Hungary at every level, this is a great illustration.
I never trusted him. Chapman changed when he took over. I used to be a biggish donor but then I saw he accepted a $5 donation from Charles Koch in exchange for making sure every student (even basic liberal arts) has to take a course “Humanomics”. Plus, that Lisa Sparks connection, where she wants to introduce prayer in public schools and pray the gay away. I told my family (3 of whom are alumni)- no more Chapman. Oh ya, and then Eastman scared me.
It is discouraging that such a great institution that does so many great things with its outstanding faculty has to operate under the control of people who do not know what leadership is in a time of constitutional crisis. I only wish you had mentioned the names of the board members who are responsible for this despicable capitulation. I wonder what Steven Spielberg is thinking?
The lesson we learn over and over is that ALL people who consider themselves Republicans or conservatives are bad people, and will only disappoint. They can’t be counted on for anything
This is sad news but not a surprize at all. Is it really shocking that the Board folded on this.
Note that Michael E. Gates, former Huntington Beach City Attorney is a a Fowler Law grad, and currently in the DOJ's Office of Civil Rights. He is one of the leaders of the MAGA movement that has taken over the City of Huntington Beach, much to the chagrin of many HB residents.
And then there is the infamous John Eastman, noted First Amendment Scholar and former Dean of the School of Law. I was a student at Eastman's First Amendment seminar and found it to be mostly his efforts to push his views that the US must be a christian nation. Must be, no other choice.

“salami-coated kitten” Why you gotta bring kittens into it? BTW, all cats and kittens are anarchists and they ALWAYS fight back.
Shocked, not really. Chapman is in RED Orange County. Shame on the institution.

At least we have the Big Ten (including the two LA schools) uniting against trump.
