I hate to break it to you, Jeff, OC in many ways is a bigger version of Mahopac. I grew up in this area (I left for college and then stayed gone for 16 years, but ended up coming back 10 years ago), and in the 80's an 90's it was also filled with the country-club Republican set. In so many ways, I have been shocked with how easily these former Reagan Republicans, who once espoused the benefits of cheap immigrant labor, have gone fully MAGA. It's like they became racist Dixiecrats overnight.
I think a lot of normal people just ceded ground to these crazies, especially on the local level. There was a concerted effort by groups like Moms for Liberty to run for local office that did not exist among moderates and progressives. Their nutty views were accelerated by the rise of social media. Until this last election, I really thought that most of these people were still quite fringe. Sure, you could get one or two on a school board, but cooler heads and reason would prevail. After the Capo Valley scandal, yeah, no. They are committed to lies, hostile to actual education, and even openly racist. Groups like Run for Something are trying to change that, but it will take time.
All eyes should now be also on the school board for Newport Mesa. The special ($500,000+) “election” of the non-qualified (and probably criminal) Andrea McElroy was another toe in the door for the cray crays. Watch that space!
I'm so sorry for what's happening in your hometown and all around the OC and the entire country. I'm glad my kids and their kids are out of the public school system that provided them with a really good education and a start on life, and sorry that my great grandkids won't have the same opportunities.

All of the administrators that were hired under her should also be terminated. They are inept, they're ill-equipped for the job that she slid them into. They're monster. I've never seen Such a group of embolden untenured people who are nasty and employed, and I gotcha to get to people and I'm sorry, if you're an interim in Long Island and the school district where your interim doesn't hire you. That says, a lot, maybe people should start. Listening to you the actual people that work in and live in the district. And by the way, we paid for another doctorate. So that this person just left our district. Thank God, however, There was groups of people that came around, talk to staff, community and parents. Where are the findings...oh that's right it was used in that person's dissertation

How do you come to the conclusion that Putnam is the reddest county in the state? That's not even close to being true. (thank goodness, as a Putnam resident.) It's important as democrats/progressives to be true to the facts in order to stay credible, since the other side does no such thing.

David, explain this to me: I've yet to meet a Moms for Liberty person who isn't pro-Trump. Trump is a cruel, lower-than-low man who mocks the overweight, the unattractive, the disabled. So why in God's name do you people—anti-bullying, pro-God, etc—sit there silently? And just back him and kneel like servants?

Been there, done that. Check out what happened with the Orange Unified School Board. When a group of parents organized to let voters know how much money the new board was wasting, just like what is happening in Mahopac, they recalled them.
