As America’s right wing is telling it, all the liberals cheering Charlie Kirk’s death need to be punished, fired, expelled. The Justice Department needs to investigate! The White House needs to break out the stick! Arrests must be made! Voices must be silenced!

And I could maybe understand the argument, if, well … um, there wasn’t this whole aftermath of the clubbing of Paul Pelosi from 2022, when Donald Trump repeatedly—yes, repeatedly—mocked the violence.

So, in regards to Kirk’s tragic murder, I don’t wanna hear your bullshit. I just don’t. Kirk’s shooting was awful. Dreadful. The murderer needs life behind bars. I have yet to meet a single person who cherishes his death. Seriously, nobody sane wants this to be the America we know. Left, right, up, down—nobody should be executed for political speech. No one. Ever.

But you, Dear Conservative, have decided to kneel behind a man who doesn’t merely embrace violence, but celebrates it.
