Capo Unified parents are mad about Judy Bullockus using the n-word. But there's something worse brewing
You're a parent. You write to Lisa Davis with a concern about your child. You shouldn't have to worry about her ridiculing you and showing your note to her friends.
Today is sort of a big day in hyper-local politics.
This evening, at the Capistrano Unified School District Office in San Juan Capistrano, this is happening …
And if you’re not up to date, Judy Bullockus is the Capo Unified School Board member who recently used the n-word during a public meeting. The whole thing went viral, and tonight I expect a swarm of people calling for her to resign (and a swarm also defending her. Because, hey, it’s just racism).
If you missed it, here’s the video of the moment …
Now, to be clear, I believe Judy Bullockus needs to go. You’re literally on the school board, uttering a word that—used by a student—results in immediate detention and, maybe, expulsion. It also happens to be the ultimate political no-brainer, and were the MAGA majority (four school board seats are held by Moms for Liberty kooks) even remotely savvy, they’d have asked Bullockus to step down many moons ago. If nothing else, in the name if survival.
So, again, it’s time to walk away, Judy.
That being said, I would argue—strongly—that Bullockus’ racist lightning bolt is the second most egregious thing to be uncovered about the Capo Unified School Board of late. And the first is much, much, much more damning.
It is this …
According to a public records search, Lisa Davis—Capo Unified School Board president and part of the four-headed MAGA majority—receives private letters from concerned parents, then shares them with her friends. I want to repeat this point, because it’s beyond disturbing: The president of your school board, who’s in charge of the well-being of your children’s education, takes private, parent-written letters and shows them to her pals. For entertainment. For bemusement. For … ridicule.
Need proof? Here you go …
I know not who Andrea Dustin is, but why in God’s name is the school board president forwarding her letters from parents? I have now seen three examples of this, which means there are almost certainly more. This is a major, major, major, major breach of protocol, etiquette and decency. There are not that many actual requirements to serve on the Capo Unified School Board. You have to reside within the district. You have to have a human head. You can’t be addicted to crack or crystal meth. You can own no more than two Milli Vanilli cassettes. And, lastly, you can’t share private letters written by district parents with your friends. Or you enemies. Or, really, anyone. This shit isn’t complicated. As a father, I consider it important to know I can trust folks working on behalf of my kids’ education.
So, yeah, Bullockus dropping n-bombs as if she’s Chico Del Vec from Junior M.A.F.I.A. is pretty brutal. But, in a way, it’s also merely a sheltered moron being a sheltered moron. Having read plenty about Bullockus, I’d have been far more surprised had she never used a racist epitaph. The only thing shocking about Bullockus breaking out the n-word is the weird lack of awareness in doing so publicly.
But, in Davis, Capo parents have a real problem. And, I’d argue, a far better reason to demand someone step down from the board.
You don’t have to be perfect to serve as president.
You don’t have to be liberal. Or a Democrat. Or even have a human head.
But you have to be trustworthy.
You have to be.
