Attended a party Tuesday night at a home in Huntington Beach. There were name tags and Blow Pops and many, many, many euphoric people.
Myself included.
The Democrats won the House!
The Democrats won the Senate!
A Democrat is the governor of Texas!
Clay Travis was wrong about everything!
Hall and Oates will, ultimately, reunite!
Wait.
Scratch that last one.

Sanity has been (somewhat) restored.
Americans don’t want to live beneath the greasy orange thumb of an autocrat. Checks and balances matter. Honesty matters. Decency matters.
More than anything, the night was a brutal repudiation of Donald Trump and his bullshit war, his interior makeover of the White House, his rants and whines and insults and complaints. It was (I hope) a wakeup call to those Republicans who reside somewhere in Sanetown and can see the MAGA brand is faded and dusty. Maybe, just maybe, Byron Donalds governs Florida as a moderate Republican. Maybe Marsha Blackburn thinks of Tennessee as a wee-bit more purple than yesterday. Maybe the GOP realizes (shit!) we need Latinos, and stops grabbing them off the streets beneath the nonsensical bellowing of “Public safety!”
Maybe.
Closer to home, we have to wait a bit to see what happens with some regional results—school boards and city councils and such. But I did get to speak at length with Chris Kluwe, whose Assembly run against the weird Gracey Van Derk Mark is gonna be tight …
Ultimately, this was a night America needed. Fuck, a night Jeff Pearlman needed.
Now, I can sleep soundly and feel good about tomorrow.
[alas, my wife snores]
PS …

Thank you for coming behind the orange curtain. I mean, it wasn’t far, since you live in said curtain. But I mean, you did travel a highway. So there’s that.
But we love every visit, and every cutting barb in your substack. What if we replace our cuckoo city council? Will you still show up?
Fingers crossed
With respect to the House successfully flipping from red to blue, Esther Kim Varet’s Common PAC targeted certain candidates both locally in California and elsewhere. Said candidates successfully flipped their districts.
